What Decision-Makers Look for in an Animated Video Explainer
Effective explainer videos respect the time of their audience, prioritize message clarity, and acknowledge the importance of animation quality and production value in delivering a helpful, streamlined experience. 73% of people have decided to buy a product after watching an explainer video about it (Tubular Labs) – and clear, authoritative, brand-aligned explainer content is what will support them in that decision.
It would be wrong to assume that explainer videos need only be a technical look at your product or service – instead, a great explainer video agency will know that emotional impact is just as important. It could be a subtle nod to how your product improves your customers lives, or an earnest story which aims to open minds and spread awareness, either way, emotion is needed for connection and trust.

ADHD, University College London
In collaboration with University College London, we here at Synima were asked to create an animation that raised awareness about the often-overlooked intersection of ADHD and ID.
This needed to be an accessible video that resonated with the target audience, making sure not overwhelm the viewer with information, so both written and long form content were unacceptable. But it would be irresponsible to oversimplify this issue and invertedly perpetuate bias, so how do you balance engagement with information? 2D animation was the clear solution.
By utilizing an illusory 2.5D lighting effect, our character animation worked as both a blank slate to project upon, as well as a lifelike character for people unfamiliar with the experience to empathize with. This is a video we’re very proud of, and UCL deemed the video strategy perfect in communicating the seriousness of the subject whilst remaining relatable and engaging.
CAMHS – Accessing Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services
To help CAMHS cope with the increasing demand for mental health services, we created this free explainer animation clarifying what services they offer. Equipped with simple, straightforward steps on how to access the relevant support, the animation involved helps families left without guidance when CAMHS are at full capacity.
This couldn’t have been achieved through a traditional written format, which may have just exacerbated the stress parents/guardians and their children were going through. Instead, this style of video was approachable for both children and adults, and its simplistic, 2D animation made use of accessible visual metaphors. The animation was rolled out across each one of CAMHS’ UK branches.
Jaggaer Logistics
This explainer video saw Jaggear approach us to chronicle the rapid changes in commerce since the arrival of the internet and explain why autonomous commerce is the next step. With such a breadth of information to cover, only animation could do the job succulently and tie every idea together without losing the thread of connectivity between facts.
In this 3D animation, we made use of a block motif that traversed along a linear story with very few editorial cuts, allowing us to seamlessly move from one point to another without feeling disjointed. Jaggaer went on to use this video on their social media not just as an explanatory device, but as a method of brand storytelling that positioned themselves as an authoritative voice in the ecommerce field.
FlexU Educational Courses
This 17-part series of videos combined live action with animation to help logistics corporation, Flexport explain complex concepts to their employees and clients. The series was a huge success with Flexport reporting a 76% engagement rate experienced by employees.
Explainer videos are compelling when they mix animation with live footage, so we overlayed on-brand, custom made illustrations against talks from experts, which not only captured interest during each talk, but worked as a visual guide when skimming back through, helping audiences get to any relevant information they need faster. The ROI of producing quality content is worth it, as evidenced by the 4 qualified leads this course directly generated for the company.
J.P. Morgan, 3PM
Here we teamed up with J.P. Morgan to produce a comprehensive video series outlining the core principles of third-party money and why it matters. Explainer effectiveness means knowing when to use animation sparingly, so we used motion graphics to highlight key information and let live footage take center stage.

How to Brief – Make the Most out of Animation Services
A brand-aligned final product is dependent on a good brief and thorough vendor evaluation. If you’re looking to make use of explainer video services, we’d recommend you include the following in your brief:
• Your audience personas and pain points
• Your desired tone
• What success looks like alongisde your key goals
• Where you plan to distribute your video
The process of vetting and choosing an animation partner is just as important. You’ll want to collaborate with an animation studio that keep you updated throughout the production process, is clear on their production timeline & prices, and has the portfolio range that indicates that they will fully adapt to your brand image and desired tone. As a production company, we want to hear questions like “what experience do you have in my industry?” to assess what value we can provide.
