Pre Production

Synima put a lot of thought into coming up with an arresting visual to captivate viewers. We came up with the idea of ink spreading through a tank of water to sybolise the insidious infiltration of ransomware and incorporated the idea of an ‘ice’ LTO tape. Finally, we wanted to include a dramatic explosion to really catch the viewer’s attention. Prior to shooting we worked with a special effects company to ensure the tank exploded in a visually pleasing way. We also created a ‘frozen’ LTO tape out of acrylic, complete with trapped air bubbles.

Production

Shooting a water tank exploding is a particular challenge because controlling where the water goes in a studio full of electrical equipment is not without danger. We used specialized lighting equipment that was water resistant and covered the entire set with plastic sheeting. We had an explosives expert on set and a Phantom Flex camera capturing the action at 1000 frames per second for a super slo-mo shot. We had four tanks prepped, expecting to have to do multiple takes but in fact we got our shot on the very first take.

So…did it work?

Feedback from the client was resoundingly positive and the video won two awards. HPE described the immersive impact as “Amazing”. This project showcased how creative vision and technical expertise can work together to deliver a compelling narrative about a scenario that businesses would often rather not think about.
