Pre Production

We worked with M&S through workshops and research sessions to build a framework for the content. Once established, we proposed a creative vision that included live action film with stylish graphics to illustrate the world of M&S Security. Existing training revolved around a harsh stop and search approach with the customers, but our content was designed to inspire the learners while teaching the full Connected Security Strategy.

Production

We had 3 filming days allocated to the production and these were combined with another M&S learning piece in order to create cost efficiencies across the two separate jobs. Our training videos were filmed in a live supermarket which was a challenging environment compared to a studio. Lighting and sound capture posed some challenges and we had to be very careful not to upset any real customers as we tried to film scenes with our actors.

So…did it work?

The client had been very keen for us to create something bespoke that aligned with the M&S Way – a friendly and light touch approach that is more strategic and insightful when it comes to security than just having stand-offish guards at the door. We helped reinvent how M&S approach security and the change seems to be paying off. The engaging recruitment piece certainly excited applicants and trainees who are keen to learn about this modern and civilised approach to in-store security.
